Does the Navy allow Gay couples or Gays in general to join them?
So I was wondering if the Navy allowed Gay couples, or gay's in general to join them. We all know the Army's quote " Don't ask, Don't tell" but I have no clue if the navy allows Gay's to join. Because I do plan on joining in two years and need to know if my fiance will be able to live with me. Any answer is welcome now before I make the plunge! Thanks!

They don't let you be in the military if you're openly gay. They have "don't ask don't tell" policy but in reality it's "Assume everyone is straight and act straight".

I sure hope it takes more than a couple of years to change the rules!

Holy Hell! Can you imagine being in the shower with someone that was stressed and falling in love with you?

Can you imagine being in a fighting hole and not paying attention cause you were put on watch with your lover?

Would we have to have ANOTHER separate bathroom for them?

In the same aspect that there is a place for everyone in this world, gays should NOT be in the military, and women should not be in infantry units!

I heard that latin Americans, guatamalans and mexicans in the Navy usually turn out gay?
While the ones who join the marines and army usually aren't gay. Is this true? What is it about the Navy that makes gay guatamalens join up? Is it because they want to be alone in the showers with dixie cup joe?
Well considering you can't be openly gay in the military that is problem number 1. #2 is the song by the Village People in the 70s which has nothing to do with the actual Navy. #3 would be because some people get it into their heads that if you can't have sex for awhile it means you are. You don't go to sea for 6 months and not pull into port. To be honest the Navy has the lucky option of going to places like Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Greece, Italy, Spain and numerous others were often the guys (and the girls) hook up with someone of the opposite sex. Sometimes they even marry them and those girls immigrate back to the US.
I want to know have there been any famous gay Navy Seals in History?
I relate to the topic so I want to know
It is possible but because of the military's policy on homosexuals none of them would come out and admit that they are gay. Admitting to being gay is grounds for a discharge.

Now, there was a Sailor (not a Seal) named Jason Knight who was famous because of him being discharged for being gay and then being called back into the military so he can deploy. His original discharge didn't indicate homosexual conduct, so that is why he got called back.
Why do people always joke about there being so many gay sailors in the Navy?
I was just reading a book the other day and this character in the book, a father of a little girl, would sneak out at night and meet up with sailors. I've also heard lots of gay sailor jokes over the years.

Are there really lots of gay men in the Navy? What is up with all these gay sailors?
I believe that the numbers are equal throughout the the branches of the military. Only the Navy puts large numbers of people together for long periods of time. In that time you learn allot about a person, including if they are gay or not.
Why do people still say the Navy is gay?
im in the middle of the application process to join the Navy.
When people ask me what im doing ill tell them im trying to join the Navy.
Then half the people i say it to start saying im gay for joining?
is there something im missing or something?
It probably comes from a quote by Winston Chrurchill who was Lord of the Admiralty during World War I who said the navy was just rum, sodomy and the lash (later an album by The Pogues would be named after this quote.)

They used to only let men on the boats, so it's a stereotype that men would swing that way either out of necessity because men are so horny all the time they can't go without sex (another stereotype) and there were no women (and no sheep) on the boats. Or the prospect of lots of men in one place is just super attractive to gay men who would sign up in droves.

BUT now they let women on the boats and they're actually sexist hell holes where the men will bet each other on who will be the first to sleep with a new female recruit etc and they will get drunk and sexually harrass girls. So I don't think it's gay at all any more.
For any navy recruiters who are on here: do you recruit anyone into the navy that is gay?
Do accept gay recruits in the navy?
I could not ask and my personal opinion is irrelevant. Politely disqualifying someone is illegal and unethical.

I had a 28yo guy walk into my Office that was "Politely Disqualified" from the Navy Recruiter in the next town over because the Recruiter was too lazy to run the paperwork for the 3 waivers he needed. To make a long story short he is still serving in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program and doing very well.
Why do people think the Navy is gay?
I tell people I'm in the Navy and a lot of people make comments about it being gay. I know the Air Force and Army call us gay, but what is it about the Navy which people see as "gay"?
Because you work with seaman
Does the US Navy actively recruit openly gay and lesbian youth?
I guy thee not!! I have seen Navy Recruiters approach openly Gay and Lesbian youths (17-22 years old) and talk to them about enlisting.
I think that you are full of it.

Just because there is the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, no military branch will actively seek openly gay and lesbian recruits. And considering that the Navy is not falling short on recruiting goals, there is no need to recruit people who would likely be quickly kicked out.
What are attitudes towards gay service personnel in the Royal Navy like?
I'm gay and giving series thought to joining the Royal Navy, I've thought about it before and been to the forces recruitment office but let my family and friends talk me out of it.

I know I could do the work and handle the lifestyle, I'm just wondering if there is still a stigma attached to being gay in the armed forces?
I would love to say that you will be accepted for who you are not what you do in bed but I'm afraid that the armed forces are an extremely conservative bunch. You will face prejudice. Don't let this put you off. It's their problem not yours.

I suggest that if you want to make the navy your career, I'd keep quite about your sexuality until you have some seniority. I know you shouldn't have to but life is hard and sometime you have to compromise.
